Do it yourself beach at NDSM
At the site of the former NDSM ship wharf, City Beach North has sprung spontaneously this year, along the banks of the river IJ. From a mobile kitchen cocktails and daily menu’s are served. Dj’s and singer songwriters supply the musical entertainment. Everyone is invited to organise their own pick nick or barbecue or play a tune.
Rooftop beach at NEMO science museum
Not really a beach, but still, the playground created by NEMO science museum on top of its roof has all the ingredients to enjoy a day in the sun: lounge chairs, ice-creams, olive trees and, of course, cocktails. The terrace is the biggest of Amsterdam. Moreover, architect Renzo Piano created a fantastic cascade, where over 4.000 litres of water flow through 30 water tanks.
Especially children will not get bored at this urban beach because of the highly entertaining watery playground Splashing Water Wonder. There, the kids can splash around with water in an educational and scientifically justified manner. Fun with molecules!
